PCM5141: PurePath Studio (Home Audio) PCM5141 & PCM5121 Frameworks

Part Number: PCM5141
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM5121, PCM5142, PCM5122

Hi,

I recently installed PurePath Studio Home Audio so that I could try building a flow, and to find out which IC is most suitable for my needs before I acquire an eval board.

However the PCM5141 and PCM5121 are not included in my list of Frameworks.

Is there a way for me to get the Frameworks I want, or can I just use the PCM5142 Framework?

Thanks,

Jon

  • I included a picture of my Frameworks list in my original message but it didn't go through for some reason.

  • Hi Jon,

The PCM514x is the most flexible device, as you can create any customer flow you want.  That framework (PCM5142 on your list is available to you).

The PCM512x device supports only 1 customizable process flow.  This means that all the components are pre-defined, but the coefficients for the various filters, DRC, etc. are available to be customized.  That is process flow labeled "PCM51xx ROM".

A word of caution if using the PCM512x ROM flow: there is a bug in the PPS software that does not allow for the .cfg to be exported.  There is a workaround for this but is a bit more involved.  I can work with you if chose to use the ROM flow.

There is no difference between the PCM5121 and PCM5122 or the PCM5141 and PCM5142 as far as the process flows are concerned.  The 1/2 at the end of the device name only indicates a difference in analog performance.

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,

    That's really helpful thanks.

I anticipate that I'll be able to do what I want with the PCM5121, so I'll get my hands on an eval board and then I'll let you know when I'm ready to hear about this work around.

    kind regards

    Jon
