TAS2559EVM: PurePath Console 3 Characterization issue

Part Number: TAS2559EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS2559, , PP-SALB2-EVM

Hello,

I got the TAS2559EVM board (AAP078A) and PurePath Console 3 running on my PC. From the TAS2559 app home page, the "System Checks" PASS (It plays a 10 seconds or so long beep sound and then finishes with the check).

However, when I try to go to Characterization, It says it is running the default Char and when trying to "Start Tuning" it switches to Audio Processing page and has warnings about I am using the default speaker data!

1- How can I characterize the amplifier to my speaker box setup?

2- when I go into any other section (i.e. Equalizer, smartAmp, speaker normalization) PurePath tries to communicate with the EVM but it looks like it gets stuck somewhere along the path.

Below is the screen shot of Speaker Normalization page. It stays in this page forever.

3- After some time (A few minutes) it gives the error as below. PurePath Console becomes unresponsive and I have to kill the app and start again!

  • Hi Omid,

    Welcome to e2e.

I will provide some comments on your questions below:

    1. You need to connect the learning board (PP-SALB2-EVM) to your TAS2559EVM in order to enter the speaker characterization panel
    2.  & 3. This could be related to a bad PPC3 installation.
      1. Have you installed PPC3 on a PC that is inside an enterprise network? Sometimes firewalls don't allow some additional content to be installed during PPC3 installation.
      2. Have you tried on different PCs? Is the same issue happening?
      3. You are able to open the Audio Processing panel, so I think the device is initialized correctly. Are you able to play audio through the EVM?

  • Omid,

Do you have further comments about the information from my last post?

    Best regards,

  • Hi Ivan,

    Thanks for the response.

1- Thank you for clarifying. I don't have access to the other eval board that you mentioned. So I think I will not be able to perform Speaker Characterization.

2 and 3: I have tried re-installing the PPC3 and even disabling all the firewalls, but same result.

c: After performing a system check, the Eval kit is recognized as a usb sound card and I can play anything from laptop. However, when I try to play any media inside the PPC3 media player, NO sound is heard. Although I can see the waveform and progress bar in the media player.

    Thanks,

    Omid

  • Hi Omid,

I'm checking the possible causes of the error you're having with our Software team. I'll provide some feedback as soon as possible.

  • Omid,

Can you send a picture of your EVM? I would like to verify that all jumpers are placed correctly.
Is there a chance you can try on a different PC?

    Thanks and Best regards,

  • Hi Ivan,

Here is the picture of the eval board.

Unfortunately I don't have access to any other PC at this time.

    Thanks,

    Omid

  • Omid,

Your jumper settings looks good, although you can leave floating the following jumpers: J38, J40, J47 and J51.

    Can you try the following?:

    • Run System Checks
    • Enter Tuning and Audio Processing panel to initialize the devices
    • Go back to Home
    • Enter Device Control panel, change something in there, like Class-D voltage peak limit or similar.
    • Go back to Home
    • Enter Tuning and Audio Processing panel once again
    • Are you able to playback audio on the EVM? (using an external audio source, not the PPC3 media player)

I'll let you know the feedback from our SW team as soon as possible, however they're currently fixing some problems with the latest version installer.

    Thanks and Best regards,

  • Omid,

Were you able to try the above procedure? How does it work?

Our SW team is currently working to fix an error during PPC3 installation, did you see this error during installation?
I can provide a previous version of the installer if you had this error, you can provide an email address to send it or send an email to me at: ivan.salazar@ti.com

    Thanks and Best regards,

  • Hi Ivan,

Here is the results from performing the suggested Procedure:

    • Run System Checks
      • Done!
    • Enter Tuning and Audio Processing panel to initialize the devices
      • Done!
    • Go back to Home
      • Done!
    • Enter Device Control panel, change something in there, like Class-D voltage peak limit or similar.
      • Done! (Changed Peak Voltage to a little lower value)
    • Go back to Home
      • Done!
    • Enter Tuning and Audio Processing panel once again
      • It looks like PPC3 gets stuck here. Please see attached image.
    • Are you able to playback audio on the EVM? (using an external audio source, not the PPC3 media player)
      • NO! no sound can be heard from the speaker.

  • Hi Omid,

Thanks for the results on the procedure. Can you share your PPC3 version details? You can check them from the About option from the menu on the top left.

Also could you please download and install this version of PPC3?: https://txn.box.com/s/aibcuhf0r1ssuad5u3kdpfsxly2beo3r
We've seen some issues with our latest installer and our SW is currently working to fix it, in the meantime the above installer is a previous version that works fine.
I think this should fix the problem with the Tune and Audio Processing stuck symptom, about the speaker normalization I'm still checking on this and will provide further comments next week.

  • Hi Ivan,

Here is the version information on my PPC3.

By the way, the box link did not work. I'll send you a separate email with regards to that.

I'll be waiting to hear back from you with regards to newer version of the software with the bug fix.

    Thanks,

    Omid

  • Omid,
