LM4810: how to set the gain?

Part Number: LM4810

I plan to use the LM4810 for an audio amplifier (5 V supply voltage). How can I set the gain from -15 dB to +3 dB? I guess a log stereo potentiometer would work, but can I use it in the feedback path? Or should I set a fixed gain of 3 dB and then use it as an attenuator somewhere at the input?

  • Hi, Frank,

The gain is determined by the relation Rf/Rin. So, any modification on the resistors values will be traduced in a gain modification. Your idea of the potentiometer in the feedback path must work. However, I recommend to ensure that the potentiometer is selected to cover all your gain range (-15dB to +3dB). A resistor in series with the potentiometer could work to ensure that the minimum value of the array gives -15dB and the maximum results in +3dB.

I hope this makes sense for you. Please let me know if you have additional questions or comments on this. We will be glad to help you.
