SRC4184: Both Input and Output Ports are Slave mode, when there is no input on SDIN or disconnect, how is the SDOUT ?

Part Number: SRC4184

Hi,

For SRC4184,both input and output ports are slave mode,

we find even when there is no input on SDIN(low level)or disconnect, SDOUT still output signal which can be seen on Oscilloscope.

Is it normal?Does the signal make sense?makes a sound?

  • Hello Lifang,

Yes, this is normal. The ADC will be converting even if there is no input. What you are seeing at the output of the ADC is the noise floor being converted.

    Regards,

    Aaron

  • Dear Aaron,

    Thanks for your reply!

SRC4184 has ADC&DAC?It can't be seen on Functional Block Diagram of datasheet.

When operates in Hardware mode ,if we don't want the output noise without input, shall we have to use the Mute pin, force it high?

  • SRC4184 does not have A/D or D/A converters.

Remember that even in slave mode, the serial data output SDOUTA or SDOUTB is always an output. (Slave and Master refer to the source of the bit clock and L/R clock.)

What you see on SDOUTA and SDOUTB is, as Aaron notes (not quite correctly) the result of the SRC process on the noise floor coming in on the respective SDINA or SDINB.
