TPA6304Q1EVM: Does the Faults/Warnings Panel Auto-Refresh?

Part Number: TPA6304Q1EVM

I have PurePath open to the Device Monitor and Control page.  On the right hand side of that page is a panel titled "Faults/Warnings".  That panel is equipped with Clear and Read buttons.

In order for the displayed Faults/Warnings array to be correct on a real-time basis, must I continuously press the Read button, or will this displayed array update itself in real time without my intervention?

I ask because my 'scope tells me that I'm in a fault condition, but the displayed array shows no faults or warnings.

Pressing the Clear and Read button in the Faults/Warnings panel makes no difference, not even displaying an updating wink to confirm that I pressed a button.

  • Hi Jim,

The Faults/Warnings array doesn't update on a real-time basis. So you see the Fault pin is being pulled to ground on the oscilloscope?

  • So, no, but the scope shows me the BTL output transistors trying to come out of their Hi-Z mode to "make audio" but then re-enter the Hi-Z mode thereafter.  I assumed that some protective measure built into the TPA6304 is engaging to save me from disaster.

I have not yet looked at the /FAULT pin to confirm this but I'm headed back to the lab for the evening session.

But on this topic of faults, when I avail myself of one panel's flippy feature I find its reverse side panel deals with linking certain kinds of detected faults to the /FAULT pin.  In general, when I mouse click on any of PurePath options, when do they become effective?  I see no "apply this choice now" button in the panel, so the implication is that any clicked changes are effective immediately.

    Is this true?

And when I click on the Clear and Read buttons in the Faults/Warning panel but don't see these buttons change color or intensity to acknowledge my click, or any indications that the displayed items have been refreshed as a result of a manual read request, what is the correct conclusion to draw?

Thanks as always for your help, Robert.

    Best regards from Indianapolis.

  • Hi Jim,

Let's take a step back. Do you have any loads connected on the outputs?

The moment you click on a button is when it becomes effective. In fact you can see what I2C lines are being written based on what buttons you press!

    Best Regards,
