TAS5805M: Over Current Channel Fault when using Process Flow 3-Band DRC & FIR (1.0 48k) while not providing fs and BCK ratio manually

Part Number: TAS5805M

Hi.

I was playing a little bit with the different Process Flows available for the TAS5805M in PBTL mono mode.

When using (1.0 48k) it is supposed than it hasn't fs auto-detection, but as there is no place in the Tuning and Audio Processing to set the fs and BCK audio, I tried to play 44.1kHz audio leaving SIG_CH_CTRL Register (0x28) in 0x00 (auto detection mode)

The audio was played without problem during a while, but after some time a CH1_OC_I fault rise in the CHAN_FAULT Control Port Register (0x70)

If I cleared the fault, I could play audio again till the fault rise another time.

If I set manually the fs (44.1kHz) and the BCK ratio (32·fs) writing 0x38 in the SIG_CH_CTRL Register (0x28), the OC fault never occurs.

I understand that I should set manually the fs and BCK ratio when using (1.0 48k) Process Flow as it is stated it hasn't auto-detection, but what I can't understand is why it can work for a while and after a time it rises an over current error. I expected a clock error related fault, not an over current one. Why is this?

  • Hello Customer,

    For TAS5805M, its internal clock refers to external BCLK.

    In your case, if external clocks are not available, the internal OSC will be used to generate the reference clock.

    But, once upon external I2S clock recovers, reference clock will transfer from internal OSC to external BCLK, which will make the OC happen.

    On our side, it is suggested :

    1. to mute the device when external clocks are not available. Only enter into play mode when external clocks are ready;
    2. For items 1 above, TAS5805M is allowed into play mode only when external clocks are ready to avoid the transfer.

    BR.

  • Hi, Alix.

    I will follow your suggestions and keep TAS5805M muted and in Hiz mode while not providing I2S clocks. Thank you!

    Best regards,
