TPA3128D2: How much current consumes TPS3128D2 in 12V PVCC?

Part Number: TPA3128D2

HI, I am going to use 12V Voltage source for TPA3128D2.

I will use TPS3128D2 as mono.(Only one speaker is used)

I wonder how much current consumes when using TPS3128D2 for using one 30W  4ohm Speaker.

.

I think Power = Voltage * Current, so 30W Power = 12V * 2.5A.

.

Is this right? If my 12V source has max 3A budget, will this sufficient to work?

.

.

And just one additional simple question,

Is the term "BTL mode" is same as the term "Mono mode" ? (not PBTL, just BTL)

  • Hi Zed,

The efficiency of the 30W on PBTL at 12V is 88%, so the PVCC input power is about 34W. So the input current is about 2.9A. I think 3A max supply is not suitable.

For BTL mode, the efficiency of your application is 90%, the input current is about 2.8A.

    Regards,

    Derek

  • Thanks for kind reply Yanming.

    1. Then If i use 18V Voltage Source with 3A budget, will it suitable?

    2. To use BTL mode, setting is same as mono mode right? (I am going to use one speaker)

I am sorry for simple questions, this is my first time to design audio amps. Please understand.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Zed,

For 18V PVCC, 3A is suitable.

If you use BTL mode and just one channel, you can use left or right channel, the other channel can be un-used.

Mono setting in datasheet is PBTL mode setting.
