TAS2564: How to calculate how much input current needed ?

Part Number: TAS2564

Hi

How to calculate how much input current is needed for below configuration

1. VBT = 3.4V,

2. output 7W, 8 ohm speaker

Thanks!

  • Hello PYTsai,

Welcome to E2E and thank you for your interest in TAS2564.

From the datasheet of TAS2564, the highest typical current consumption with IV sense enabled operating in active mode is stated as follows:

To conserve power, the device can enter software shutdown with typical current consumption of .5 uA and 10uA from VBAT and VDD sources, respectively.

At the output: the current need it is based from ((P=I*V=V^2/R). To operate at 7W output for the speaker you selected ( 7 W ouput, 8 ohm load), it requires roughly ~7.5 Vrms and ~.93 A (rms) or (~1.32 A instantaneous). For a different output voltage range or output power with respect to the THD+N performance , similar calculation can be done.

At the input: you can refer to the typical current consumption of your operating state as shown in the image above, and please refer to the efficiency table to relate the output current demands back to the input. Some headroom should be considered with efficiency of your desired output power because the efficiency graph is based on the RMS value. The input instantaneous current required will be somewhat higher due to the efficiency of the device.

I hope this helps to resolve your concerns.

    Regards,

    Jin Gao
