PCM9211: SPDIF and I2S

Part Number: PCM9211
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DIX9211

Hi team,

The customer requires to convert a coaxial signal into an I2S signal. By setting different working modes through I2C, the I2S signal can be converted into a coaxial signal for output. The I2S is required to use the same group of MPIO_ X。

According to the specification of PCM9211, only MPIO_C can be used to convert I2S signal into coaxial signal, but MPIO_C does not support I2S output, does it? Can MPIO_B be used for I2S interface as data output / input conversion? Or is there any other way?

Best Regards,
Amy Luo

  • Hey Amy,

If you need to use the same pins for I2S, then you will want to use MPIO_B because it is the only I/O that can be configured as either an AUXIN or AUXOUT. The data line will be either an input or an output depending on which mode you have selected. Note there is not an option to simultaneously stream data in and out on the same port but it sounds like that is okay for this case. This could also be accomplished with the DIX9211 which has the same functionality without the analog ADC if you do not need to support an analog input.

    Best,

    Zak
