PCM9211: Could it handle mic-in signal? Or is there a better solution than PCM9211

Part Number: PCM9211

Hi,

We want to find a HW solution that could do both microphone-in and line-in to S/PDIF out. (mic-in and line-in share the same jack)

I found that PCM9211 could do this but I didn't find any description about mic-in.

Could PCM9211 handle mic-in signal?

If not, is there a HW solution that could do both microphone-in and line-in to S/PDIF out?

It will be even better if there're 40dB PGA and mixer embedded inside.

Thank you.

Best Regards,

Cindy

  • Hi Cindy,

PCM9211 has an ADC with two input channels that can each accept single-ended signals up to 0.6*Vcc peak-to-peak. If you only need mono inputs for mic and line-in then you could dedicate each of these to one of the inputs. But if these are stereo sources and you only expect one or the other then you would either want to ensure that the signal levels are roughly the same, or have a front end programmable amplifier that can set the appropriate gain depending on whether a mic or line input is connected. Digital gain up to 20dB can be applied post ADC conversion, but this still requires that your signal is within the linear ADC operating range and generally you want to try to use as much of the dynamic range as possible for best performance.

We do not have a device that integrates a PGA and mixer with S/PDIF out capability.

    Best,
