TAS2563: reading programmed values and determining speaker impedance and frequency.

I was wondering if it is possible to query static and live internal quantities of the TAS2563; for example, the currently loaded tuning parameters (e.g. T/S parameters, EQ setting, etc.), as well as current temperature, battery, etc. By live quantities, I mean the ability to obtain information such as an impedance curve that is not the one that is stored in the model, but the actual ability to measure the impedance vs. frequency of the current speaker being tested.

Hi David,

You can know the impedance of the speaker load by reading Registers 72 to 75 from Book 100, Page 2 from the device. These 4 registers contain the speaker impedance measured at the moment it is read. I can provide further details about how to calculate the impedance value from the register data if this helps.

However reading back such things as an updated model of the speaker, EQ coefficients and other parameters would not be possible.

On the device, I am reading back 0s from here "the impedance of the speaker load by reading Registers 72 to 75 from Book 100, Page 2 from the device."

Can you clarify if 72-75 is in decimal? or should this be 0x72-0x75. Likewise is this book 100 in decimal? Also, is there a register and book map for this part?

Hi David,

Did you read these registers during playback?
I'll check today if playback is required, please consider that in order to calculate the speaker Re we need to send the pilot tone and sense back IV data.

Registers mentioned are decimal. Attached is some example of how to do this.

Hi Ivan;

I am getting back 0s with this procedure. The configuration we are running sets the amp in "bypass" mode. Do you think bypass mode will make any difference for reading back the impedance? Or do we have to read it when the system is playing audio?

Hi David,

Does "bypass" mode means internal processing bypass?

The device must be set to tuning mode to be able to get Re value.

Bypass is the internal processing bypass, and I believe this has resolved the issue.
