Hi,
The minimum load is specified as below;
On the other hand, TPA3138D2 can set PLIMIT, and this limit voltage as virtual-rail.
Can we consider that the minimum load is 1.6Ω if the virtual-rail is set below 10V?

Kuramochi

Hi Kuramochi,
As for 1.6ohm case, do you expect TPA3138D2 output as PBTL (mono) or BTL (stereo)?

Hi Matthew-san,
Thank you for your response.
The output is PBTL.

Hi Kuramochi,
Got it. Datasheet specify 1.6ohm min load with PBTL mode 10V PVDD case. Your question is speaker load variance, right?
What's more, PLIMIT does help limit RMS output power to avoid over-current protection trigger. However, another main concern is peak current during startup or inductor ripple current.
So our suggestion with min load is to use larger inductor to reduce peak or ripple current.

Matthew-san,
Thank you for your reply.
>Your question is speaker load variance, right?
No, I don't concern about speaker load variance now.
I would like to know if a 1.6Ω load is allowed at VCC>10V by PLIMIT.

Hi Kuramochi,
TPA3138 overcurrent is 3.5A. You can use PVCC>10V @1.6ohm case by PLIMIT if it can touch overcurrent threshold.
