Part Number: PCM1840
Hello dear TI engineers!
For our new application we plan to use the PCM1840 in hardware mode and I2S audio protocol. The PCM1840 is a 4channel ADC and the I2S protocol is defined for two channels only. So I would expect two SDOUT pins for I2S-mode. One for channel 1/2 the other for channel 3/4. Wordclock and bitclock are for both of course. According to datasheet the PCM1840 has one SDOUT only which is fine for 4channel TDM-mode. My questions for PCM1840 in I2S-mode : Does PCM1840 leave out maybe channel 3/4 and supports channel 1/2 only ? Or is there maybe a hidden GPIO which can be used as second SDOUT for channel 3/4?
Would be great if you could help us!
Thanks a lot and best regards
Mario
Hi Mario,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for your interest in our devices! PCM1840 only supports 4-channel operation in TDM mode. There are no additional SDOUT lines for 4-channel I2S. If you can use TDM this would be the preferred path as you will need 2 devices for 4-channels of I2S.
Best,
Zak
