TLV320AIC3104: About absolute maximum rating of Analog input

Part Number: TLV320AIC3104

Hello,

Regarding to absolute maximum rating on TLV320AIC3104,my customer is asking a question.

(Question)

According to datasheet, absolute maximum rating of Analog input is -0.3 to AVDD + 0.3V.

They think “±0.3V” on above speciation means the protection diode drop voltage(Vf).

But according to section 10.3.8 on datasheet page36, the protection diode drop voltage is ~0.6 V.

What is difference from both drop voltage (0.3V and 0.6V)?

How should they understand the difference between them?

Regards,

  • Hello Tao,

The customer will need to abide by the abs-max rating table which indicates that the voltages should not exceed +/-0.3V outside the supplies.  The diode mentioned in 10.3.8 is not expected to conduct under normal operating conditions and therefore should not have current flowing through it, it may not fully turn on in all devices until 0.6V, but many will start to conduct as early as +/-0.3V as listed in the abs. max table which is why it's conservatively specified that way.
