TPA2012D2: Can I use it as a monaural speaker amplifier?

Part Number: TPA2012D2

For common component purposes, we want to use stereo speaker amplifier ICs for mono speakers as well.
Is this possible?

If possible, can I just fix one side of the IC to GND?

  • Hi,

Welcome to E2E and thank you for your interest in our products!

Do you refer to single-ended speakers? The output speaker drivers are independent from each other OUTR+/OUTR- are for one independent speaker and OUTL+/OUTL- are used for another speaker. Both outputs are used in a differential configuration. Since it is a Class-D driver, both outputs are required to be connected to the speaker. So, it is not possible to connect one side of the IC to GND.

  • Hi,

    Thank you for the reply.

No, there is one differential speaker.

For example, OUTL+/OUTL- is connected to the speaker, but OUTR+/OUTR- is no connected.

And SDL is High, SDR is Low.

    Is such a connection possible?

If it is possible, what happens to the INR+/INR- connection?

  • Hi,

Yes, this is the correct connection for a single channel mode.

Regarding the INR+/INR- connection, these pins should be connected to 0.1uF capacitors to GND when they are not used.
