Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV320AIC3104
Hi team,
Due to shortage of TLV320AIC3109, is it okay to use TLV320AIC3104 to replace it?
Thanks.

Hello James,
I will ask our marketing team look into options offline. In the meantime I can confirm that the TLV320AIC3104 is the stereo (2-ch) version of the TLV320AIC3109 and that for for mono (1-ch) operations, the AIC3104 is 100% pin-to-pin and register compatible to the AIC3109. So, yes it's fine to use them interchangeably for mono applications.
Hi Collin,
They're trying to use 3104 to replace 3109 and this is a mono application.
But I want to double check with you that PIN14 on 3104:MIC2L/LINE2L/MICDET and PIN14 on 3109:MICDET,
do we need to choose the PIN function via register or additional hardware change?
Thanks.
James
James,
Good question. Using the microphone/headset detection feature with the AIC3104 is similar to the AIC3109 and the headset detection still needs to be register enabled through page 0 registers 13 and 14 before the headset detection will operate.
If the headset detection is not used, then it is best to AC-couple the unused inputs of the device to GND through a ~0.47uF capacitor on the AIC3104 to prevent the inputs from floating. This is not 100% required but is a design best practice.
Hi Collin,
Thanks for the quick response.
I have a follow up question:
If I enable Headset detection via writing the register 13 bit 7=1, will the 3104 PIN14 automatically select the function as MICDET?MIC2L/LINE2L/MICDE
Or let me put it in this way: how to choose the PIN function of PIN14 since this is a multiple function PIN.
Thanks.
Hi James,
You are correct in that enabling headset detect in R13 will set the pin function to MICDET. otherwise the input will be set to a MIC/LINE input.
