TPA3245EVM Power Supply Voltage Range

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA3245EVM, TPA3245

Hi,

TPA3245 have not worked normally if having applied 14V to PVDD and evaluated TPA3245EVM although the power supply voltage range is mentioned on page 3 of the user's guide as below(the AVDD which is the internal regulator output did not start up).
So, it can work normally when the power supply voltage is more than about 17V.
However, as a result of having evaluated two TPA3245EVMs, that threshold depends on TPA3245EVM.
Could you please doublecheck it ?

Best regards,
Kato

  • Hello Kato-san,

I am sorry to hear you're having some trouble.

I was able to test an EVM in our lab, and I can confirm that the board does appear to function with PVDD as low as 14V. I was able to reduce PVDD to 13.3V before the EVM no longer produced output.

When you experience this problem is it consistent or intermittent? You also mentioned that you have Two EVMs and they behave differently, do they both quit working with PVDD less than 17V?

    Regards,

  • Hi Steve-san,

Thank you for your quick response.

Yes, two TPA3245EVMs don't work normally when the supply voltage is less than 17V.
So, I checked TPA3245EVM version which is "APP072E1" as below.
Is this difference the cause ?

    Best regards,
    Kato

  • Hello Kato-san,

I apologize, I should have asked you the version. I found an APP072E1 board in the lab and it performs exactly as you say.  it does not function below 17 volts.

The reason for this is in the reset control circuit.  in the APP072E1 R32 was 12k and in later versions it was changed to 9.1k.. This allowed PVDD to fall to a lower voltage before the reset engages.  I changed R32 to 9.1k on the APP072E1 board that I have in the lab and it could then be used down to 13.5V.  So if you are able to swap out R32,  you will also be able to use the EVMs as described in the users manual.

I have attached pictures below for your convenience.

    Best regards,

    -Steve Wilson

  • Hi Steve-san,

    Thank you for your support.

I understood that the value of R32 which is applied to TPA3245EVM "APP072E1" is same with TPA3251D2EVM.
So, I will try to replace 12kohm with 9.lkohm on the TPA3245EVM and evaluate it.

    Best regards,
    Kato

  • Hi Kato-san,

    You're welcome, I'm glad i could help.

Also, you are correct regarding the value of R32 in the TPA3251D2EVM. It is also 12k.

    Regards,

    -Steve
