PCM4222 DSD output rate using 48kHz audio sample rate

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM4222

Hi,

In the PCM4222 data sheet and EVM manual, references are made to DSD output rates of 2.822MHz and 5.6448MHz, corresponding to a 44.1 audio sample rate.  There are references to PCM output rates corresponding to 48 kHz sample rate, but none for DSD at 48kHz.  Question: is this a valid condition:

- Audio sample rate= 48kHz

- DSD output rate in 64x  mode: 64x48kHz=3.072MHz

- DSD output rate in 128x mode: 128x48kHz=6.144MHz

Also, is DSDCLK synchronized to the master clock?

Thanks,

Rick

  • Hello,

Although DSD rates are typically linked to a 44.1kHz sampling frequency due to Super Audio CD (SACD) applications, there is no reason why the DSD rate can't be linked to 48kHz, 32kHz, etc. if your application requires it. Just make sure to select a master clock (MCKI) rate that is appropriate for 48kHz, which would be 12.288 MHz.

The DSDCLK clock output is synchronized with MCKI clock.
