TAS5825MEVM: A-B comparison between two acoustic prototypes

Part Number: TAS5825MEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5825M

Hello!

I would like to build an A/B -testing setup, to compare subjective sound quality between two Passive Radiator -options for my project.

Both PR's have their Characterization data adjusted accordingly, so SmartBass -tunings are slightly different.

I am in stage, where I control TAS5825 tunings through PurePath Console 3 and EVM-board.

My speaker is Stereo with 2x Full Range, so I have 2 available channels at my TAS8525EVM-Board.

Do you have a suggested method, for smoothly switching between two acoustic boxes and their consecutive tunings?

Thank you!
Best,

Mikko

  • Mikko,

May i understand more clear about your question. you want to do AB comparison with A:2ch TAS5825&tunning / B: 2ch TAS5825&tunning + 2ch full range speaker, or you want to do with 2ch TAS5825  +  A tuning /B tunning  + 2ch full range speaker?

first method maybe easier, as you just configure all tunings to two AMP,  then use external swith to simply switch audio output and do AB comparision.  how do you think?

  • Dylan, sorry for my very slow reply in this matter.

Anyway perhaps this diagram opens the challenge a bit:

  • So obviously it is not too hard to build something between say SoundCard out and 2 x TPA5825MEVM boards, which does the switching. There are plenty of suitable boxes available in AV-industry, for instance https://www.rolls.com/product/SS412 .

However, In PPC3, with my EVM Board connected, in upper right corner I can see two images of a SoC, with labels "A" and "B" on top. My EVM-board has two TAS5825M -chips and dual set of stereo outs. This just got me wondering, if this type of A/B testing would be already built in?

  • Mikko,

You are correct, each device an be controlled individually.  You can either use the GUI switches to place the devices in mute or play, or use a simple script to do the same.
