Good afternoon, colleagues!

Help with advice, we are conducting research to determine the architecture of the future version of the audio subsystem.
At the moment, we are discussing 3 options (in the attachment).
Tell me what problems can arise when connecting to ESAI (NXP i.MX8) RX of your PCM1865 ADC in TDM mode (up to 8 mono channels) and to TX in TDM mode in parallel up to 3 devices - 1 or 2 amplifiers and 1 DAC (up to 8 mono channels).
Are there any preferences? Or tips?

Hello!

You caught us over the holiday weekend so it took a little longer than usual to get to this one.

Multi-drop TDM buses are very common and at a high level, this should work fine. The SDOUT line of the processor will control the DAC/AMP outputs and the SDIN will receive the information from the ADCs.

Some things to consider would be to verify that all the devices on the bus use the same TDM BCLK-to-FSYNC offsets and FSYNC pulse width requirements.

Note that the PCM1865 is a 4-channel ADC so you'd need two devices to acquire 6x microphones + Stereo (2-ch) AUX. Also note that we have a newer family, the TLV320ADC6140, 5140, 3140 devices which have some improved features and capabilities vs. the PCM186x family.

About 4-channel ADC (PCM1865): 8 mono analog inputs -> 6 mic mono inputs and 1 stereo AUX input

About TLV3206140: Required only automotive rating

I saw PCM6340-Q1 (4 mono analog inputs), what are the benefits of using ADC data (compared to PCM1865)? and can I connect 2 such ADCs to one TDM bus?

Hello,

The PCM6340-Q1 comes with the added benefits of integrated diagnotics, and the PCM6240-Q1 integrates the same diagnostics and also the required low-noise MICBIAS boost circuitry.

The PCM6340-Q1, PCM6240-Q1, and PCM1865-Q1 can all be used on a multi-drop TDM bus to achieve the desired 8 channels.

Can you give me a guidelines of multi-drop TDM bus (HW&SW)?

If I understood correct, PCM1690 isn't compatible with TAS6424MS (PCM1690 hasn't SAI).

For my understanding: I want to connect 2 devices - DAC and Amplifier - on the same bus. At the entrance to them, I transmit 8 different signals (channels) over the data bus. Each of these devices can select any signal to use, for example: 1-8 signals are used by the DAC and 1-4 signals are used by the amplifier

The PCM1690 only supports TDM8, so they can share a bus. The channels are set to play a specific, static channel (VOUT0 plays TDM slot 0, VOUT1 plays TDM slot 1, etc.).

TDM can be selected in the software mode or hardware mode using the FMT pins.

Hi George,

Your wiring configuration looks valid to me. You should verify that your I2C addresses are all unique (I do not suspect a problem, but is worth checking).
