LMK03318: Use LMK03318 as a jitter attenuator

Part Number: LMK03318

Hi,

We are considering adding a jitter attenuator because the output of the DPLL for timing synchronization that we use does not meet the jitter characteristics required by the main switch.

I checked the LMK03318, and it says "jitter: 100-fs RMS typical" for the frequency output above 100MHz on the datasheet as shown below.

The clock we will use as input is 156.25MHz, jitter: 280-fs, the required output is 156.25MHz 8 outputs, jitter: 150-fs or less.

Is it possible to use LMK03318 as a jitter attenuator to satisfy this condition?

Or is there another product that is better suited to the jitter attenuator?

Please Check it.

Thank you.

Best Regards,

From anthony

  • Hi Anthony,

Please provide the phase noise of the 156.25MHz clock, we need phase noise instead of jitter to determine if LMK03318 or other device can help you.
  • Hello.
    Thank you for your reply.
What information should I give you exactly to help me?
Is the measured data value? Or is it a noise waveform?
If not, what information should I provide to you? Can I get help?
The first thing I want to know is that if I use the LMK03318,
I can satisfy my desired Jitter spec (whether this product can be used as a jitter attenuator) and whether there is a more suitable product than the LMK03318 with a jitter attenuator.
I am waiting for your advice.
    Thank you
    Best Regards,
    From Anthony
  • Hi Anthony,

Please use a signal source analyzer to measure the phase noise of the 156.25MHz clock. You can refer to datasheet, section 8.31, Figure 2 for a typical phase noise measurement.
