BQ32002: Evaluating TI's RTC solution for replacement

Part Number: BQ32002

Hi team,

My customer is evaluating our RTC to replace intersil's  ISL12057.

There are two questions and would like to consult with you.

  • Whether they need to change crystal part with 12pF load capacitance if use BQ32002DR? The required crystal load capacitance of ISL12057 is 6pF
  • Could you provide the suggested crystal with our RTC as below figure? I didn't see it at our datasheet.

  • Hi Feng bin,

~12pF load capacitance is required to make BQ32002 work properly.

Our datasheet shows that our initial accuracy tests are performed with a KDS DMX-26S 12.5pF crystal. Taking this as evidence that 12.5pF satisfies the ~12pF typical requirement for BQ32002, all of the Intersil device's recommended crystals can also work with our device. The datasheet for each crystal listed in that table has a 6pF and a 12.5pF variant; the part number would change, but the datasheet characteristics (aside from load capacitance) would remain otherwise identical. Note that 12.5pF is a highly standardized value, and nearly all manufacturers carry 12.5pF variants for 32.768kHz crystals, so there's potentially many more crystals which could work with BQ32002.

    Regards,

    Derek Payne.
