CDCI6214: Register programming procedure

Per section 8.5.1 of the data sheet, TI recommends that all registers addressed from 0x44 to 0x00 be programmed in descending order including those with reserved values.

However, this is making chip initialization longer than the customer desires.

1. Can we skip the registers with reserved values?

2. Is there any particular procedure that is faster to initialize after power-on?

3. Is there any recommended procedure for changing some of the the register field such as bias current for XO?

4. Any other suggestions you might have to speed this up?

Hi Steve,

The fastest way is to write everything into the EEPROM at the first power-up. So it takes a little longer at first power up but then for all the later power cycles everything will be loaded in a few ms.

Is there a particular reason the data sheet recommends programming all the registers sequentially in descending order?

Any problem with skipping registers with reserved values? (See #1 of original post)

Hi Steve,

No problem skipping the reserved registers. The primary reason to write in descending order is to write R0 at last. R0 contains the "recal" bit which needs a "1" after everything else.
