LMX2595: LMX2595

Part Number: LMX2595
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMX2820

The synthesizer with the highest frequency VCO offered is the LMX2595, which has a maximum VCO frequency of 15 GHz.  Does TI have any synthesizers with a higher VCO frequency on their roadmap?

  • Hi Chris,

15GHz is the highest VCO synthesizer we have, and I don't anticipate generating a VCO at a higher frequency soon. For physics reasons it can become complicated to create silicon VCOs with broad tuning range and decent frequency centering much above 15GHz, so our approach for some time has been to add a doubler to the output to achieve higher frequency range - the LMX2595 achieves 20GHz, and the LMX2820 achieves 22.6GHz, using this doubler method. You can reasonably expect the doubler method will be our standby to achieve higher output frequencies.

Is there a reason you require the VCO output specifically above 15GHz, as opposed to doubled output?
