LM555: timer that can perform the speeds of a photographic shutter

Part Number: LM555

Hi Team,

May I ask for your help? Kindly see customer concern below:

"At this moment everything is highly conceptual, what we are needing is a timer that can perform the speeds of a photographic shutter. We are very interested in continuity.Best Regards"

One of the product that I initially think of is LM555. May I ask if you can advise if this fits for our customer request or is there better TI product that might fit?
Also I am trying to find reference for our customer concern and was not able to find one. If you know a reference design for the customer concern please share.

Kind regards,
Gerald

  • Gerald,

Most cameras will operate with a max shutter speed of 1/4000th of a second. The frame rate is what will matter when it comes to frequency of operation. What is the frame rate (FPS-Frames per second) the customer is targeting? For example the newly announced Canon R3 is 30 FPS in photo mode. This is only 30Hz which the LM555 is capable of doing. For photography this is incredibly fast. Most movies are filmed at 24FPS unless there is slow motion in which case high frame rates will be used. The LM555 can go up to 100kHz. Even professional film making the LM555 can suffice. Common FPS for film making are 24,30,60,120,180,240 FPS.
