I am having the same issue as described here:

That issue is marked as resolved, but the resolution does not appear to be in that thread. Can you please let me know how I can get the MSP430 on this evaluation board to communicate with the I2C device.

When I tell the board to "Scan I2C Bus" under the USB Communications -> Interface dialog, it just says "No Device Found" and accordingly the software is unable to write registers to the device.

  • I looked a little closer at the chip, and I could see that the pad for GPIO3 was not making a solder connection to the chip. I removed the chip and cleaned up the solder work, and now that the chip is back on TICS can discover the I2C device.

    I was a little surprised... Does TI not do QC testing on their EVMs?

    This issue with too much solder on the ground pad is sometimes called "skating", I think TI might want to reduce the paste opening for this pad in their next run of the design.

    EVMs are not produced in-house, we will notify our vendor to ensure quality is up to everyone's expectation.
