LMK05318: Does the LMK05318 support IEEE 1588 V2?

Part Number: LMK05318
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , LMK5B33216, LMK5C33216

hi experts:

 does the LMK05318 support IEEE 1588 V2?

if yes, how can I apply this standard?

if no, what part of IEEE 1588V2 can be satisfied?

 tks for your confirmation.

  • Hello Allen,

The DPLL DCO in the LMK05318B is definitely capable of performing the timing adjust functions required for the IEEE1588 PTP.

For system use case where all of the required output clock frequencies can be satisfied from one network synchronization domain and 2 APLL then LMK05318B can be applied.

For PTP applications that require multiple synchronization domains TI recommends the LMK5C33216 or LMK5B33216.

By itself of course DPLL alone cannot satisfy all of the 1588 PTP, there is needed a software control for the PTP servo loop and MAC/PHY to apply and extract the timestamping which is performed in the SoC or FPGA. The DPLL DCO is adjusted by serial control interface register programming of the network synchronizer to track the PRTC.

    Kind Regards,
