LMX2594EVM: Input Signal requirement

Part Number: LMX2594EVM

Hello Support team

I read the datasheet, and I found input signal needs to be square wave because it has requirement of duty cycle and rising/falling edge.

But in datasheet 8.1.1 OSCin Configuration, I found there is sin wave.

Can I enter sin wave to be reference signal?

If it can, are there any other requirements?

  • Hi Er-Chiu,

Sine wave or square wave are both acceptable. Square wave is preferable as its edge rate is higher, which could result in lower PLL noise. This is more obvious when the frequency is low. If your reference clock frequency is, for example, 100MHz, then there is no significant difference in PLL noise with either sine wave or square wave clock.
