LMK04832-SP: CLKin input applicatoin

Hello,

My customer is considering using the LMK04832-SP for a satellite project.

Here is the CLKin specifications in the datasheet.

Is it possible to use the following clock source as clkin input of the LMK04832-SP without a clock buffer like the diagram above in communication payload on satellite?

- Single-ended sinewave 10MHz (0dBm, 633mVpp)

- Sinewave’s slew rate spec = approx. 0.02V/ns

- Sinewave has atomic clock accuracy, coming in from the outside

Are there any expected problems such as degradation of phase noise performance?

Hi JH,

The customer must meet the minimum slew rate requirements to guarantee a stable lock. I do not recommend directly inputting a 0.02 V/ns input into the LMK04832-SP.

As the footnote mentions, a 0.5 V/ns slew rate provides better phase noise performance than a 0.15 V/ns or lower slew rate.

Could you please give the customer a solution to clear the single-ended sinewave input issue?

If they need an additional device such as a clock buffer to solve the issue, please recommend it as a space-grade product.

Hi JH,

I am afraid, there is no space grade single ended to differential buffer available.

But LMK04832-SP an accept clipped sine wave input, if you can increase the amplitude of 10MHz input and clipped it, that should ensure the input slew rate and signal swing requirements.
