LMC555: Minimum frequency and maximum output current

Hello,

I want to use LMC555IM as an astable multivibrator to generate square wave. What is the lowest possible frequency? The datasheet says 4kHz. Can I configure it to 1Hz? Can this part drive 80mA load? The datasheet does not talk about output drive current.

Hello,

The abs max output current is 100mA as shown below. Stresses beyond this can damage the device.

For a 1Hz frequency Figure 8 can be of assistance for component value choices.

With respect to frequency, why does the electrical specification say 4kHz as minimum frequency for astable multivibrator?

Hello Vijetha,

This item in the table is a specific test condition that shows that the target frequency is 4.8kHz, however from device to device you will see variation that can be down to 4kHz or up to 5.6kHz.
