LMK1D1204: Can that splitter be used for PCIE3 clock splitting

Part Number: LMK1D1204
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMK00334, CDCDB400

Hello,

I need to split one PCIE3 clock of one 8 lanes bus to two clocks each for 4 lanes bus.

Can LMK1D1204 be used in order to split PCIE clock to 2 clocks ?

I'm asking that since PCIE3 is routed with 85 ohms impedance and the LMK1D1204 says its split clocks shall be terminated with 100OHM.

Therefore I wonder if it is OK to use it to split the clock and if I do so than shall the 100ohm parallel termination on the device input shall be replaced with 85ohm  ?

Thanks and BR,

Ohad

  • Hi Ohad,

LMK1D1204 is a LVDS output type which needs to be terminated with 100 ohm to get proper swing on output. For input side, if the clock source doesn't need the 100 ohm termination then we can do that. Could you tell where is this clock input coming from?

For PCIe, we usually use HCSL or LP-HCSL type format. You could use LMK00334 or CDCDB400 instead of LMK1D1204 for splitting.

    Best,
