LMK6D: MAX Output capacitor value.

Part Number: LMK6D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMK6C,

Hi,

LMK6C (CMOS) specification is under condition on adding 2.2pF capacitor.  How about LMK6D (LVDS)??  What is output load capacitor on LMK6D (LVDS) devices?

I understand LMK6D (LVDS) specification is based on 100 ohm termination, but my customer is asking MAX output capacitor value on LMK6D (LVDS).  Please advise us.

Thanks and best regards,
M.HATTORI.

  • Hi Hattori-san,

From what I know, the CMOS output format is special because it is not supposed to drive purely resistive loads, so valid CMOS receivers need to have a small amount of internal/parasitic capacitance. A value of 2.2 pF was chosen to represent the load capacitance when the LMK6C was tested, it is not a component that should be attached to the output in normal operation. The customer very likely does not need to design a 2.2 pF capacitor into their system. For differential formats like LVDS, the output load capacitance is usually not something to worry about, and the only reason to have a capacitor on the output is if AC coupling is required.

    Best,
