CDCE6214: Use case without a reference clock

Part Number: CDCE6214
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMK5B12204

Hello,

My customer has some questions about the CDCE6214 use case.

Q1. If you have stability data over temperature and time for the internal VCO, please provide it.

Q2. Can CDCE6214 be used without a reference clock? If so, can the conditions below be satisfied?

         - Output clock = 245.76MHz, 122.88MHz / Stability over temperature and time = 1 PPM

Q3. If CDCE6214 does not work, can you recommend a suitable low-cost product?

Thanks,

JH

  • JH,

The CDCE6214 does not have a holdover mode - what you are looking for is more likely a DPLL device, such as the LMK5B12204 (note that the accuracy in holdover mode is set by the secondary XO that is tracked - using a TCXO would be recommended here).
Please refer to these excerpts from the LMK5B1220 datasheet for more information:

The LMK5B12204 device has hitless switching, with an accuracy of +/- 10ppb during the switching event.

    Thanks,

    Kadeem
