Tool/software:

CDCI6214RGE is obsolete, to be replaced by CDCE6214RGE. But they are NOT the same. Is there a migration guide, or a checklist of both hardware & software changes?

These two devices have quite different register maps. A comparison between the two is attached here:

In terms of the BOM, the CDCE6214 does not require external 50-Ohm termination to GND, as these resistors are integrated into the output driver.

My problems are not resolved, unfortunately. If I move to the CDCE from now on, I will have a mixture of old & new in the field. My SW downloads the register contents at bootup. How do I know which chip I have in a given instance? The old CDCI has REV0 register (addr=0x18) with "1h = CDCI6214" to ID the chip. But the new CDCE does not have this register, as shown in the migration doc you sent. How do I tell the difference between the old and new so as to download the correct register mage?

Eugene,

The easiest way would be to look at the top markings.

From a software standpoint, the CDCE has 85 registers whereas the CDCI only has 63. This may be the easiest way to tell the difference without physically looking at the part.
