Part Number: CDCEL9XXPROGEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CDCE937, CLOCKPRO, CDCE949PERF-EVM

Tool/software:

hI,

I am able to run software(ClockePro) and once i hit the Find Boards, it can find it and i am able to turn on the Device, on(attached). but when i go to the page(in attached) to  the wite or read from device,

it says device not detected. i didnt finf the troubleshgotting in the manul.

please help me on this to get fixed.

Thanks,

Ali Ravandi

  • Ali,

The programming EVM does not work for the second image that you provided, only for the device programming.

You can make the configuration in "local" mode in the second window, then program it to a device in the first window with the PROGEVM connected.

    Thanks,
    Kadeem

  • Thanks for your prompt reply.

Sorry, i didn't get it. i am in local mode. but the big circle is still dark green. should it be light green?

how can i be in local mode? any better manual?

    Ali

  • Ali,

"Local" mode refers to when the TI Clock Pro GUI is in simulation mode and the big circle is dark green. TI Clock Pro is not compatible with the Programming EVM.

You can create a configuration in the TI Clock Pro GUI while in Local mode, then export the configuration and import into TI Clock Pro Programmer in order to program it to your device.

    Best,

    Cris

  • Cris,

I followed your instruction and saved and load the configuration file, but got error in attached. any idea?

    any different setting for com2?!

  • Ali,

What jumper settings do you currently have on the EVM and what device are you trying to program? It's possible there could be a discrepancy there.

Additionally, here are some more thorough instructions on how to program the part that may be of use: https://e2e.ti.com/support/clock-timing-group/clock-and-timing/f/clock-timing-forum/933911/cdcel9xxprogevm-cdcel9xxprogevm

  • Cris,

The chip I have is CDCE937 and the board is EVM V1.1. the Jumper is like this:

    J4:1V8

    J3: VDDOUT

    J2:1.8V

J5: to top position close to J2. (I think the label is wrong)

here is what I am doing:

    - Running clockPro.exe. then hit Skip. new small windows open and asked me to select device. I choose (local)CDCE937

    - a new window shows up and I setup my desire setting.

    - then I go to "Save Configuration Code release sheet". and save the file

    -  then I hit the "Wizard" in above window to go back to very first window.

    - Now I am going to "Programming EVM Tool".

    - in new window I choose CDCE937 and it finds board. it is able to find the board.

    - then I go to "Load File-> Configuration Code release sheet" and load the file which I already saved.

    - once I hit the "Program Device", the error window shows up

I don't what else to do. please help me to finish this as I have spent mor than a day on it.

    Thanks again,

    Ali Ravandi

  • Ali,

Do you see this issue when trying file types other than the Code Configuration Release Sheet? Try using the TXT or HEX file option outputs as well.

Ensure that the checksum settings match between the programming window and the file creation window:

We have ordered programming EVMs to be shipped to our site so that we can debug on our end as well.

Do you have a CDCE949PERF-EVM available? This EVM can be used with CDCE937 as well for checking programming & performance.

    Thanks,

  • Cris,

    Thanks for your support,

I tried everything and still not working. honestly, I gave up the software and programmer. But I used the IC holder. With two thin wires soldered to pin SDA and SDC, I connect them to DE10 board (Cyclone V) and had my own code to program the chip. I was able to program it.

    BTW:

    • - I might be wrong, but software seems to have issue. for example, once I save a file and load it again, the loaded file is different than what I have saved.
    • - there is a mistake in manual (page 6 3.2.1) the IC location is wrong
    • CDCE(L)9XX & CDCEx06 Programming Evaluation Module Manual (Rev. A)
    • - J5 label on the board is wrong
    • - And it is not working!

Again, thanks for your support and prompt help.

  • Cris,

one more issue which I found:

In TSSOP-28 SOCKET1, pin 22 is connected to VDD_OUT. if the IC CDCE937 locate in this socket, then pin 14 of the chip will sit on pin 22(Y3) of Socket. which is wrong! i.e. we put 3.3V on output pin 14 which is Y3.
