Clocksource for PCM1794

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DIR9001, PCM1794, PCM1794A, PLL1708, TS3L110

Hi,

Im planning to feed my PCM1794A with I2S data. I want to switch the I2S Signal with an 74HC157D 2-input multiplexer. As far as I see the PCM1794 uses the clock source from the I2S Signal. Now when I switch the Sources the Clock also changes. Is that a problem or do I have to use one clock Source for all the devices (DIR9001 and PCM2707)?

Is it possible to use a "master clock", for example the PLL1708, to generate a master clock Signal for the whole I2S Net?

How do I have to supply this clock? Using the SCK0 Output from the Clock Source and supply it to all BCK inputs?

regards

Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

This is a little bit out of the Clocks and Timers realm. What device are you using as the I2S master?

  • Thats the thing. Im quite new in the field of I2S. As far as I see the Transmitter is always the master.

I have two masters, the PCM2707 and the DIR9001 and one Slave (PCM1794A). My plan was to switch between these two with the 74HC157D.

Or is this the totally wrong way and there are other/better solution for my problem?

  • Hi Patrick,

Again, asking the Audio E2E forum may result in more specific information but a demultiplexer/switch should work (but all digital lines should be switched). The key is to ensure that clocks at the receiver are aligned as intended at the transmitter. Using a SCK from one device and WS/Data from another could lead to misalignment of the data/WS w/ respect to SCK.

Again, ask the digital Audio E2E forum more, but a high speed demux like the TS3L110 might do the job.
