TRF3765: Programming TRF3765

Hello,

I am using ADC12J400 EVM. This evm uses TRF3765 for clock generation.

For automation, I would like to program TRF3765 using a little c program that I have created. C program works with the other devices LMK04828 on the board.

Now, I am having problem in reading values from TRF3765.

Timing diagram given in the data sheet shows that I need to send 5 bit of address followed by 27 bit zeros (lsb first). Then I need to hold latch signal up for one whole clock cycle. Then start sending 32 clock cycles to read data.

Is this right?

I looked at the pattern files used by GUI. Timing diagram in this pattern file is different. It has 28 bit zeros followed by 4 bit address and then latche enable. Then start sending clocks  to read data.

Which one is correct? Attached is the pattern file used by ADC12J4000 GUI.

    I think section 7.4.2 from the datasheet clarifies a bit on the timing diagram.

    7.4.2 Readback Mode
    Register 0 functions as a readback register. The TRF3765 implements the capability to read back the content of
    any serial programming interface register by initializing Register 0.
    Each read-back operation consists of two phases: a write followed by the actual reading of the internal data. This
    sequence is described in the timing diagram (see Figure 2). During the write phase, a command is sent to
    TRF3765 Register 0 to set it to readback mode and to specify which register is to be read. In the proper reading
    phase, at each rising clock edge, the internal data are transferred to the READBACK pin where it can be read at
    the following falling edge (LSB first). The first clock after the latch enable STROBE, pin 5, goes high (that is, the
    end of the write cycle) is idle and the following 32 clock pulses transfer the internal register contents to the
    READBACK pin (pin 6).

    It seems you need to do a two part thing, first write to Reg0, then you can continue to do the read back, being sure to read on falling edge. Take a look at page 37 of datasheet for register 0 definition. What you mention about the gui timing diagram seems to fit with this Reg0 definition.
