LMX2522: Drop-in Replacement for LMX2502

Part Number: LMX2522
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMX2502

I have an existing design that uses the LMX2502. I am looking at replacing the LMX2502 with the LMX2522. Is the LMX2522 a drop-in replacement for the LMX2502? Same register settings and everything? Can I safely expect identical performance by simply swapping the part?

Thanks

  • Jeffery,

Comparing the two, this seems to be the same:

    - Pinout

    - Block Diagram

    - Register Programming

However, the LMX2512 is not a drop in replacement for the LMX2502 because the VCO frequency as shown in the electrical table is totally different.

  • Dean,

Thanks for the response. I came to a similar conclusion when comparing the 2 datasheets. However, the "seems to be the same" part is what still concerns me. I was hoping to be able to swap the part without having to go through a validation process, but maybe that won't be possible.

    Thanks

  • Jeffry,

The LMX2502/2512 are very application specific focused parts and the dividers are not very flexible. The first to do is ensure that the LMX2512 can actually produce the desired output frequency that they want. If it can not, this is a showstopper and answer is a hard no.

If it can make the output frequency they want, then still the performance could be different due to differences in phase noise and spurs.
