Hello,

I'm just getting started with an evaluation board that interfaces to a computer through a 25 pin IEEE printer connector. I don't have any computers with that kind of port built in; my laptop only has USB, ethernet, and HDMI ports available. A related inquiry about using a USB to IEEE parallel printer cable (linked below for reference) stated that the converter didn't work, and led to discussion about using something called a USB2ANY with an adapter board.

With that in mind, what is the best way to interface the evaluation board to my laptop? Are all parallel printer cable to USB converters effectively ruled out for this?

Hello Andrew,

The USB2ANY information is here on the Product Folder: http://www.ti.com/tool/USB2ANY . Perhaps there is some information in the User Guide that might be of help to you. TI provides ICs, but not cables.

The EVM you mentioned, is this a TI EVM? If so, what is the number/description?

I'm still not completely certain I have the terminology correct, but what I'm working with is the TMS320VC5402 (referred to in another location as TMDS320005402). My apologies for not including that in the original inquiry.

It sounded like a previous community member was able to use the USB2ANY to resolve this issue, but had to perform EVM specific modification (listed in the related inquiry in table form) in order to interface the cable to the adapter. Is there a different, more well-established way to interface this EVM to a USB port through any of the other ports on the EVM? I'm concerned that trying to replicate the solution in question would take up too much time to get right, for me.

More broadly, do newer DSP evaluation boards use a different means of interfacing with a computer? I am still open to the idea of switching to a different evaluation kit if it would have better compatibility to my hardware and operating system.

Hi Andrew,

The board you refer (TMDS320005402) is very old. The recommended development kit for TMS320VC5402 is www.ti.com/.../tmdsdsk5416
