TICSPRO-SW: TICSPRO-SW doesn't work with USB2ANY firmware version 2.8.2.0

Part Number: TICSPRO-SW
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CODELOADER, USB2ANY, , LMK5C33216, LMK61E2, LMK04828, LMX2595

Dear All,

I have USB2ANY firmware version 2.8.2.0, which is working with CodeLoader and USB2ANY Explorer without any problem. When I am starting TICSPro-SW, it requires to "upgrade" to 2.7.0. version.

I downloaded TICSPro-SW today (9.Sept.2020) from TI website receiving link via email to SNAC072AF-TICS Pro Software v1.7.0.0. My question is, how to fix TICS to be able to work with USB2ANY version 2.8.2.0.

  • Hello,

The USB2ANY firmware versions later than 2.7 currently do not work with TICS-Pro.

Please see below for more details.

    Regards,

  • Hi Martin,

(edited)  USB2ANY firmware later than 2.7 will not work with TICS Pro. TICS Pro is compiled with links for the 2.7 version it is specifying to you. If you try to use an updated version of the firmware, there is no guarantee that the USB2ANY will properly communicate, if at all. Please use the 2.7 version of the USB2ANY firmware as instructed by TICS Pro.

(Edited for most recent guidance) As of TICS Pro 1.7.5.0 or greater, we now recommend using included version 2.9.1.1 of the DLL/firmware. Version 2.9.1.1 is an improved version of the USB2ANY firmware we made specifically for TICS Pro that supports block reads and block writes, which accelerates SPI/I2C transaction speed by up to 50x. Certain devices, such as LMK5C33216, have 1000+ registers, and we found that wait times were unacceptably long for multiple writeall/readall transactions; the new version of the DLL reduces writeall/readall operations to <1s on every supported device.

In theory, TICS Pro should also work with v2.7.0.0 and v2.8.2.0 versions of the DLL now, though faster block read and block write features will be missing. If a previous revision of the DLL is required:

    • Navigate to the TICS Pro installation folder (default C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\TICS Pro)
    • Replace the USB2ANY.dll version in this folder with the version you would like to use
    • On startup of the application, navigate to the options menu and disable block reads/writes.
  • Hi Derek,

thanks for my conclusion confirmation. I attached the screen of my computer. I downgraded USB2ANY firmware to the required 2.7.0 version and it seems, that the device control will be OK. Tomorrow I will start the device measurement. Thank to this I have a question, because Code Loader 4 requires to use the 2.8.2 USB2ANY version and I expect to measure whole synchronization , clock and RF generation chain using EVM boards of following devices:

    LMK61E2

    LMK04828

    LMX2595

What is the better control SW for these devices, CodeLoader or TICSPro-SW, please? Is it possible to control in one TICSPro-SW several devices or for each device it is needed having separate TICSPro open?

  • Hi Martin,

I strongly recommend using TICS Pro over CodeLoader. TICS Pro is actively maintained, whereas CodeLoader is no longer receiving updates or bug fixes.

You can open multiple instances of TICS Pro with different device profiles and assign a unique USB2ANY to each. Multiple devices from the same instance of TICS Pro are not supported.

    Regards,

  • Hi Derek,

a lot of thanks for your answers.
