LMK04832-SP: Jitter performance when using CLKin* vs OSCin inputs

Part Number: LMK04832-SP

Hi There,

I am using only PLL2 in my system. Will I be better served using OSCin or CLKin* as reference inputs to PLL2?

Regards,

Tom

  • Hello Tom,

Either CLKinX or OSCin is okay to use.

"Traditionally the OSCin is used as a reference to PLL2, but it is also possible to use CLKinX as a reference to PLL2."

The CLKinX signals go through one extra mux to get to the PLL2 phase detector when compared with OSCin, but I wouldn't expect that to make any significant difference. Using the OSCin will also give you one extra output, OSCout to use and will free up CLKin0 for syncing if that is desired.

You also have access to a doubler if you use OSCin.

    Thanks,

    Vibhu
