Hi All,

We are using ADS1015 ADC in our design to monitor the voltages. We have provided a voltage divider across analog input to reduce the input voltage range(+/- 2.048 PGA ). Now we are planning to use a capacitor to form a rc filter as per the datasheet. As mentioned in the datasheet, the cut of frequency for rc filter should be selected as per the output data rate.

How do we select the cut of frequency based on the output data rate?

    The cut-off frequency can be set based on your expected input signal, but the output data rate essentially sets your upper limit. To reproduce a continuous signal from discrete-time outputs, you will have to output at twice the highest frequency present at your input, so the output data rate will need to be 2 times the highest input frequency. Using this, you can set your cut-off frequency to the output data rate divided by 2.

    This is simply the maximum that would allow full reconstruction of your input signal with a given output data rate. You could set the lowpass at the input lower than the output rate divided by 2 if your input does not need that much bandwidth.
