ADS112U04: Thermopile application

Part Number: ADS112U04
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMP7732, ADC122S021

Hi team

A customer is dealing with a design with thermopiles application and is considering the ADS112U04.

He noticed that the DS mentions thermocouple as the recommended application, and don't know if it is good for thermopiles as well, so he check our LMP7732 and saw that the ADS122S021 is recommended for thermopiles application.

Is the  ADS112U04 good for thermopiles as well? Which should I recommend the customer to use?

Regards

David

  • Hi David,

The ADS112U04 can be used to measure thermopiles. A thermopile is similar to several thermocouples in series, and the output voltage from a thermopile is on the order of 10s or 100s of millivolts.

The main consideration would be how quickly the customer wants to measure the thermopile voltage, as the ADS112U04 is a relatively slow ADC (2 kSPS max) while the ADCxxxxx are much faster SAR ADCs (I am not sure which device you are referring to, as ADC122S021 is not a valid part number).

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. We can continue our offline discussion about this if you want.
