ADS1278-SP: unused outputs ad power savings

Part Number: ADS1278-SP

Hi there, working with a customer on incorporating the ADS1278-SP into the design. They are only using one channel.

1. Should the other channel inputs stay open or should they be terminated somehow?

2. Do we have to power down the other 7 channels? How?

3. Is there a way to figure out how much power savings we can get y disabling the other 7 channels?

  • Hey Kannan,

It's been a while, hope you are well!

The unused analog inputs can be shorted and tied to ground. I would recommend powering down the unused channels, each converter has its own PDWN pin that you would drive low to do this. Table 15 gives an approximation of the power/channel for each of the operating modes at max data rate. You could use this in addition to the power specs in the elec char table to get a good approximation.

    Best,

    Zak
