TSW14J56EVM: Memory Fail diode lights up during firmware flashing

Dear TI team,

I am having difficulties with a set of evaluation board I just received the : ADS54J60EVM and the TSW14J56. I followed to quick start-up guide to the letter and no mishandling has been done.

Both boards are connected together, have their USB connected to my computer and are provided each with +5V from a stabilized lab power supply.

In HSDC, the TSW14J56 is detected, but when I try to flash the firmware, it instantaneously stops and the D8 diode indicating memory fail lights up. There is no error message in HSDC, and I am not able to go further with loading the firmware in the ADS54J60EVM and so on.

I already had a chat with your technical support that asked me to post a message on the forum. So far I have tried :

Switching the USB ports and using other the USB cables
Reinstalling HSDC and installing from another computer
Attempting to flash alternative versions of the firmware as found inside the folder
Using different +5V power sources
Performing the above steps without the ADS54J60EVM connected
Performing multiple resets of the ADC, of the USB,etc... using the onboard switches.

The jumper configurations are identical to what is specified in the initial startup guide. All the power indication diodes are lighting up. Only D8 lights up after attempting to flash the board.

I suspect a hardware failure of the memory.

Thanks in advance, this issue is getting me late in a time-critical project.

Quentin,

Please make sure the 5V supply connected to the TSW14J56EVM can source at least 4A. make sure the current limit on the supply is not set to low. If you are using one supply for both boards, make sure it can source 6A.

Thanks for your answer, since the setup diagram indicated +3A sources I set the compliance to this. I will check and come back to you.

Hi Jim,

I tried supplying the setup with a 6 A power supply and this did not solve the issue.

Can you send me the serial number that is labeled on the TSW14J56EVM board?

Can you send a screen shot of the HSDC Pro GUI after pressing "capture"?

What is the status of the LED's on the ADS54J60EVM?

Quentin,

You are loading the ADS54J60EVM first using the ADS54JxxEVM GUI correct? This must be done first as this board generates the reference clock for the FPGA. This will program the ADC and LMK device on the EVM. There is no firmware loaded into this board.

Hi Jim,

I have no access to the ADS54JXXEVM GUI, in HDSC there is no "low level panel" appearing. I tried flashing with the LMF_8224 version of the firmware but to no avail.

Here is a screenshot after pressing capture:

On the ADS54J60EVM only the D4 diode indicating 5Vin lights up.

The ADS54J60EVM serial number is : 6314900018 and the TSW14J56EVM is : T751QGIB.

Quentin,

Please follow the instructions in the attached document. There are two separate GUI's required to do this test. it appears to me you are only using the HSDC Pro GUI.

Hi Jim,

I tried to find this GUI prior to contacting the technical support, based on the quick startup guide, but since it does not appear on the ADS54J60EVM page (https://www.ti.com/tool/ADS54J60EVM) I concluded that the GUI was now included inside HSDC.

I looked everywhere inside the installation folder but found no corresponding file, neither was I able to find the SLAC594.zip archive anywhere online.

In the product folder, scrolled down a little ways then click on the "View Package" button that is in line with the title "Hardware and Software Package". This is were you can access the GUI.

Thank you very much and my deepest apologies for my clumsy researches for the GUI !

That seems to do the trick, I still have the D8 diode lighting up (is it ok ?) but the I managed to acquire data as described in the quick start guide.

Good to hear! D8 is suppose to be on. The silkscreen name we used should say pass, not fail!

That was indeed quite misleading ... And it did not make any sense since I was able to capture data haha.

Now I can move on and get familiar with the boards, it will be quite involving to adapt them to my specific application.
