[FAQ] How do I program the NVM of a smart DAC or AFE in production?

I have used a smart DAC in my design and there is no on board controller on the final PCB. How do I program the initial NVM values of the smart DAC during the design's production?

  • The smart DAC design process can be broken down into three stages: evaluation, prototyping, and production.

During the evaluation stage, the smart DAC or AFE EVM can be used for initial tests.

In the prototyping stage, the smart DAC or AFE EVM can be used as a controller to program the smart DAC or AFE mounted on the prototype board. In this stage the final NVM values can be determined.

During production, the NVM programming of the smart DAC or AFE can be integrated into a bed of nails test fixture commonly used in electrical testing at the end of production. This allows for efficient programming without the need for an onboard controller or manual programming like in the prototyping stage.
