AFE4403EVM: how to get accurate PPG readings of OSRAM SFH7050

Part Number: AFE4403EVM

I am acquring data from OSRAM SFH7050 sensor board via AFE4403EVM GUI. However, even with extreme care and stillness of my hand and wrist, I am not able to get pure signal without noise. I have added images of the kind of signal I am getting, along with the orientation of my hand while acquiring the data. i have set the sample rate as 125/second and my number of averages is 10. Please suggest any tips to get better data.

  • Hi,

One of the most common issues for the noisy signal is the power line noise coupling into the signal. Are you running the laptop on battery? If no, please switch to battery power.

Also you may want to provide ground isolation by placing black tape around the sensor.

Can you also validate the setup by capturing the PPG signal from finger instead of wrist? For wrist, would it be possible to try on few more people?

Some recommendations to improve the PPG signal quality would be to increase the LED current. But to prevent TIA saturation, you may want to reduce the TIA gain.
