ADS124S08EVM: EvaluaTIon GUI Refuses to Download USB Drivers Necessary For Running EVM

Part Number: ADS124S08EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS124S08, ADS114S08EVM,

Hello,

I'm having trouble with getting started with the ADS124S08 EVM. It sees that no matter what I try, the installation process refuses to download the necessary USB drivers to recognize that I've plugged in the EVM module.

Things I have tried:

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling the EvaluaTIon software
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling the ADS124S08 Device Package
  • Running both of the above as an administrator
  • Double-checking my installation paths
  • Double-checking that I actually installed the ADS124S08 Device Package
  • Uninstalling the "Generic Bulk Device", unplugging the EVM, and plugging it back in

I've noticed that when I download the EvaluaTIon software and the ADS124S08 Device Package, there is no "Drivers" folder in my installation path but there is an "ADS124S08" folder. From scouring other forum posts, my understanding is that I'm missing a usb_bulk_driver.inf file but I cannot find it anywhere online and I've verified that it doesn't exist anywhere in the "DSEvalSW" directory. In addition, opening up the GUI and plugging in the EVM leads to the bottom left message reading "Hardware Not Connected. Ready...".

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time!

Sincerely,

Denis

  • Hi Denis,

The drivers should have installed automatically as the USB Bulk uses a native MS driver that comes with the operating system.  What can sometimes happen is if the EVM is plugged into the USB port before the software is installed the driver association can be lost.  Being that you saw that there was a bulk device in Device Manager would indicate that the driver did install.

The driver installer and inf files are located with the main application code found at:

If the bulk device shows up as unknown then we can associate the the device to the appropriate driver manually at the above location.

One other consideration that can sometimes happen is the wrong device package may get downloaded.  There are two EVMs that are very similar.  One is the ADS124S08EVM (24-bit) and the ADS114S08EVM (16-bit).  Make sure that the correct device package is being used for the EVM that you are actually using.

    Best regards,

    Bob B

  • Hi Bob,

Thank you for your quick reply and your help.

I didn't realize that there was an alternative directory in which the drivers were saved.

    Sincerely,

    Denis
