AFE5803: AFE5803 VS AFE5808A

Part Number: AFE5803
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE5808, , AFE5808A

In the data sheet (page 5) for the AFE5808a  it mentions improvements over the AFE5808. Our these improvements present in the AFE5803 ?

  • Hi,

Yes, the improvements mentioned in AFE5808A over AFE5808 also applies to AFE5803.

The specifications of device AFE5803 is similar to the device AFE5808A . The main difference between AFE5808A and AFE5803 is the additional integrated CW signal chain in AFE5808A.

AFE5808A has passive mixer for Continuous Wave Doppler and supports 16x, 8x, 4x and 1x CW clocks.

AFE5803 is pin to pin compatible with AFE5808 and AFE5808A. Some of the DNC pins the device are used for CW signal path such as Clk_16x, Clk_1x,  and PGA test mode pins of AFE5803 are used for I and Q phase inputs and outputs of CW signal chain.

Hence, AFE5808A device has two functional modes: pulsed-wave imaging mode and continous-wave Doppler imaging mode. When the AFE5808A device operates in the pulsed-wave imaging mode, LNA, VCAT, PGA, LPF, and 14-bit ADC are active. In the CWD imaging mode, only LNA and CW mixer are enabled.

Below table can be used for quick comparison:
