DAC7678: Internal and External References

Part Number: DAC7678

Hello,

The datasheet for the DAC7678 states "The internal reference in the DAC7678 is disabled by default for debugging, evaluation purposes, or when using an external reference." Does this mean that we should disable the internal reference when using the external reference capability, or, will the part automatically shut off the internal reference if it detects that a voltage is being applied to the Vrefin pin? I'm assuming it's the former, but just wanted to double check.

Thank you!

  • Hi Kevin,

The internal reference is disabled by default. It won't turn on unless you write to the register to enable the reference in either static or flexible mode. It looks like the reference powers on/off automatically based on the power down modes of the DAC outputs once you enable the reference in static mode, or flexible mode method 1. The DAC doesn't detect the voltage applied to the Vref pin, so you would need to make sure to keep disabled, which is the default state.

    Best,
